Thomas and Maddux - Two Cross-Town Greats!

I became a Cubs fan for life beginning the end of the 1990 season. I began first grade that fall, and my teacher, Mrs. Leese was such a fanatic, she played day games on the radio, and we sang Steve Goodman's "Go Cubs Go" after the pledge of allegiance on game days. Best of all, my teacher would hold special raffles, giving away various cubs paraphernalia during games. One day, she said she was going to raffle off a poster of her favorite pitcher, young blossoming star named Greg Maddux. He was pitching that day, and she handed out numbers to all the students. The poster was awesome, I knew I wanted it. Sure enough, my number was called, and that poster went up on my wall for the next 15 years. Maddux has been my favorite pitcher ever since, going on to win 4 cy young awards in a row, the first with the Cubs.

Frank Thomas, did not play for the cubs, but their cross-town rivals the white sox. My father, a former south sider, was a die-hard sox fan, and I had the pleasure of seeing Frank Thomas play in person countless times over the years. He was awe-inspiring. The things he did to that baseball....whenever I hear Hawk Harrelson say ":you can put it on the board" my mind always goes to the Big Hurt.

I am very excited to see two of my childhood sports heroes entering the hall of fame together

I know that the both of them are legends in this town. I mean, they have done so much for our town, and I want to keep seeing them even more. In my opinion, there is no way that they are losers. They may not seem legends to the younger generation, but to me, they are and always will be two of the greatest. I hope to see more from them and I want them to work towards making that goal happen.
